This picture bugs me. I mean, how much attention does it take to realize that the total cost of a few hundred senators is inevitably going to be less than the total cost of everyone on social security, no matter how big the difference is?
I agree that it might be worth cutting senators' wages. But it might not be worth paying them for the time it would take to have that debate, and it certainly doesn't help to make the case for your proposed budget with such a transparently flawed argument.
It bugs me to see the left using the same self-conscious misuse-of-math tactics the right uses. In the case of income disparity, we've got the better arguments. I think there's a strong case to be made for playing fair.
