Ben Goldacre has a TED talk! I cannot gush enough about this. It's about bad science reporting, and bad science in general -- it's called "Battling Bad Science." (So, yeah.) He raises the serious issue of biases in science reporting, especially in medicine. I hope I don't have to explain why this is a really freaking big deal. And I think Goldacre fills an important role otherwise largely absent in our cultural dialogue -- figures who attack scientific medicine on scientific grounds. There are big problems with the medical industry, but right now the main organizations fighting against it are the sort of people whose proposal is "Go have a checkup with your local homeopath, instead." And when we waste our energies pushing for people to go see useless doctors instead of just inadequate ones, we lose the opportunity to make real medicine the best system we can.
Here's the talk. I attempted to embed it, but I couldn't get it to work properly.
