This might be a controversial post, but I think being sick sucks. I'm sick right now. It's one of the small kinds of sick -- headache, sore throat, nausea, occasionally feeling like I'm going to throw up, and a whole bunch of snot. I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night, and only got like five hours. I have to work tonight, and tomorrow, and Sunday, and I'm pessimistic about whether I'll get better during that time and exertion.
(Yes, I know pessimism has a measurable negative effect on a person's rate of healing. No, I can't just pretend to smile and be super-optimistic to make myself better. I happen to know, through experience being me for the past 24 years, that if I try to be optimistic just because it's convenient, I will very quickly spiral down to a lot more miserable than I was when I started, because I get frustrated with myself for failing to be optimistic and un-frustrated.)
This illness sucks, and there are loads of even worse kinds of illness that suck way more. The position I'm taking in this post, and again, I'm biased by my current physical state, is that illness in basically all of its forms are pointless and should be entirely done away with.
Discussion and debate is welcome.
