I've been thinking about bridges. Metaphorically. Like, the idea of bridges connecting one sense of perspective -- individual, immediate, proximate -- to another -- community, long-term, global. And it feels wrong. Because bridges connect you from one land mass to another that's basically the same, in that it has the same relationship to the individual. These other territories, vast extensions outside oneself, aren't like that. The territory next to yours isn't part of yours. Standing in it doesn't mean you're standing amid all relevant territories.

What seems to make at least a little more sense to me, at least right now, is spires -- massive towers, that can give you a view of far more of the territory all at once. But they also put you far, far away from being able to reach out and make changes.

I may be a little out of it just now.
