I went to my home town library today, to get some work done, and I was quickly reminded of why I never liked to spend much time there: My home town librarians are not friendly people.
I mean, I'm not super upset by that fact. I'm more angry about how few good public spaces there are than I am that I don't totally love the attitude of some of the people who work at the only one. But it was very weird, the kind of chilly, borderline rude way they acted. I remembered them from my childhood, so they must have been there for over a decade each. (I saw three of them, all of whom were not particularly cheerful.) Maybe it's the fact that they don't have the anxiety of unemployment pushing them towards maximum emotional over-exertion that most millenials have at work? In which case, good for them.
